Welcome! Here is where tips to getting and ranking your Composing Skill shall be posted. I hope this helps users stuck on getting their skill up so to compose higher ranking songs.
~*~*~ The Composing Skill!!! ~*~*~
Step 1: Getting The Skill!
Okay! To get the skill is very easy as you have yourself 4 different NPC's to pick from to buy the first book from.
- If you are in Dunbarton then locate the Bookstore and speak to the NPC Aeira and in her shop look for a book called Introduction to Music Composition. Once found it should be 500 gold.
- If you are in Emain Macha then locate the town square and speak to NPC Nele who is around the beautiful water fountain. Look around his shop for the book Introduction to Music Composition and once you find it then it should be 500 gold.
- If you are along the Abb Neagh pathway North West of Dunbarton (also connects Dunbarton to Taillteann) along this pathway you should find a Bard Camp. Inside that camp find the NPC named Yvona and in her shop locate the Introduction to Music Composition which should cost 500 gold.
- If you are in Tara and at the Castle (known as Rath Royal Castle) go inside and go through the door that will take you to the 2nd floor of the castle. Once at the 2nd floor start looking around. Somewhere there is an NPC named Briana and in her shop should also be Introduction to Music Composition costing 500 gold.
To learn the skill you'll need to make a couple scrolls so type in what you want onto the scores which are purchasable at any general shop NPC (or about such as Walter in Dunbarton and scrolls are about 30 gold each so they aren't costly) just get a couple and use Compose, select the scroll you want, type in anything into it then hit Ok and that will do it. Once the bar is full just click Learn and it will cost you zero AP to rank this to Rank F.

Step 2: The First Ranking!
Okay! Now that you are Rank F for Composing it's time to take that skill from F to E and that's a very easy thing to do might I say. How? Well easy how. All you have to do is follow my directions and it'll be fine. Now then, to fully train Rank F in order to go to Rank E you'll need to go to 1 of 4 NPC's to buy 1 book. See? Told ya it was easy. Now then:
- If you are in Dunbarton go to the bookstore you were at before and speak to NPC Aeira and purchase the book Improving Your Composing Skill which will cost about 2,500 Gold.
- If you are along the Abb Neagh pathway North West of Dunbarton (also connects Dunbarton to Taillteann) along this pathway will be the bard camp you might had came to before to purchase the first book to give you the skill. Speak to NPC Yvona and purchase the book Improving Your Composing Skill which will cost about 2,500 Gold.
- If you are in Emain Macha then locate the town square and speak to NPC Nele who is around the water fountain. Look about his shop and you should find the book Improving Your Composing Skill which will cost about 2,500 Gold.
- If you are in Tara at the Castle (known as Rath Royal Castle) go inside and go through the door to the 2nd floor. Return to, if you went to her before, NPC Briana and look around her shop for Improving Your Composing Skill which will be about 2,500 Gold.
Once you buy it all you must do is simply read it and you're done. Once it says your training is complete then you simply Advance it to Rank E. This ranking will cost you 3 AP (or Ability Points) to rank this to Rank E.

Step 3: Going From E to D!
Okay! Now that you're at Rank E I'm betting you'd like to go higher and be Rank D to compose longer songs on your own, right? Well your in luck! This ranking doesn't hurt a bit just like last time it's just buying 1 book so have your gold ready!
- If you are in Dunbarton go to the bookstore and speak to NPC Aeira and purchase the book Composition Lessons with Helene (1) which will cost about 7,100 Gold.
- If you are around Abb Neagh pathway go to the Bard Camp and speak to NPC Yvona and purchase the book Composition Lessons with Helene (1) which will cost about 7,100 Gold.
- If you are in Emain Macha then locate the town square and speak to NPC Nele. Look around his shop and purchase Composition Lessons with Helene (1) once you find it and it will cost about 7,100 Gold.
- If you are in Tara then go to the Castle (Rath Royal Castle), go inside and go through the doors leading to the 2nd floor of the building. Locate NPC Briana and purchase from her Composition Lessons with Helene (1) book which will be about 7,100 Gold.
Once you have bought the 3rd book then simply read it and once it says you have full trained your Composer, you just open the skills and click Advance for Composing skill. This will cost you 3 AP (or Ability Points) to take it up to Rank D.
- If you are in Dunbarton go to the bookstore and speak to NPC Aeira and purchase the book Composition Lessons with Helene (1) which will cost about 7,100 Gold.

Step 4: Going D up to 9!!
Okay! Now is when it gets tricky. Not tricky in finding the books you'll need but in getting to them is the tricky part. We will be accessing an NPC's Secret Shop. That NPC is Nele. The easiest way I found to do this is using Likeability Potions. Now then, before we begin, I will say this now: Make sure you have at least 60,000 Gold on your person in their Inventory. There are 4 books inside that you will need to buy because once you are into his secret shop buy them or else you will need to go through this all over again to get back inside his secret shop. Now there are phrases he will say (or should) if you are doing it right. This takes patents and to not try and rush it.
*A Note for any who don't know: Likeability Potions can be bought in Iria after you complete Rafting. I suggest rafting with a party unless you are strong enough to do it solo. After you complete the rafting, if you had beat any goblins and gotten stars, you speak to the NPC, turning in the stars. Go into his shop and look at how many you need to buy 1 Likeability Potion. Or you can go onto the board and see if anyone is selling them in their homes or shops up around Dunbarton.*
Step 1: Have on you Inventory room, 60,000 Gold, and I would say 15 or more Likeability Potions, just to be safe. (Likeability Potions cost 42 stars with Rafting. Prices vary in player shops)
Step 2: Open your inventory and pick up 1 Likeability Potion. Move the potion over top of NPC Nele. When you see the word Give click him then click Ok to give it to him. He will speak and you end the Conversation.
Step 3: Click on NPC Nele like normal to bring up the options of Conversation, Shop, the usual things. Click on Start Conversation. Now then, this is where you must pay attention or you'll need to start over maybe. So when the book comes up this is important. If it says (Nele is really giving me a friendly vibe.) then it is safe to click Personal Story. BUT if it says (Nele is giving me a look that it may be better to stop this conversation.) then End Conversation WITHOUT speaking to him. If you did get (Nele is really giving me a friendly vibe.) and you have clicked Personal Story once and have returned to the book, you will click on Nearby Rumors and after that click End Conversation.
*Note for Step 3: If you had gotten the 2nd words (Nele is giving me a look that it may be better to stop this conversation.) and you End Conversation without speaking to him then you just go into your Inventory, pull out 1 Likeability Potion and give it to Nele like you did the 1st time. Once you have click on him and see if you get (Nele is really giving me a friendly vibe.) and if so do as listed in Step 3 for that but if not, End Conversation and try again.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and Steps 3, remembering not to ask Nele about his Personal Story and Nearby Rumors if you get the words (Nele is giving me a look that it may be better to stop this conversation.) because that would reset your Likeability Points so read carefully. You'll need to repeat this so you can earn more of Nele's trust to you because once he trusts you enough you'll be able to see if the 4 books are inside his shop.
Step 5: Now, you'll know you are getting close or might even have it or nearly have his trust when you get the phrase "I was wondering whether you would come or not...And here you are! Hahaha..." upon clicking Start Conversation. But of course if once the book comes up if you get (Nele is giving me a look that it may be better to stop this conversation.) then of course do not ask him about his Personal Story and Nearby Rumors, just click End Conversation and give him 1 Likeability Potion and try again speaking to him. So you'll want to slow down and read carefully or you might miss it.
Step 6: When you get the phrase "I was wondering whether you would come or not...And here you are! Hahaha..." after clicking Start Conversation, and you get (Nele is really giving me a friendly vibe.) Click Personal Story. Now then, when you do, if you get 3 phrases as follows (or should follow) then you are very very close: "For some reason, whenever I talk to you, Player's Name, you remind me of this girl... who'd left me a long time ago. She was very nice and easygoing just like you.” “Hmm….” “Hehe, I think I just caught a cold. Why do I keep getting a lump in my throat?”
Step 7: If you get the above phrase after clicking Private Story then cross your fingers and toes that you will get the next phrases when you click Nearby Rumors: "The father of the Lord that used to lead this place a long time ago had two sons. One of his sons, when he was very young, left home to see the world.” “The current Lord is the son that remained…I wonder what happened to the one that had left…” “Who knows, he might be back in this town, disguised in his identity, and working at a bar or something…” Then celebrate and feel full of joy because that is an almost 100% chance you just succeeded at accessing the Secret Shop. Once the book returns click End Conversation.
Step 8: Now you should be able to click on Nele without giving a Likeability Potion and then when it comes up with the options click Shop. Now if you get the phrase "Hey, are you here to buy something from me again? Since you are here so often, Player Name, I feel like I have to show you something very special...Haha, take a look..." then you just unlocked his Secret Shop! Now the new books will be mixed in with the others so you should read carefully to make sure you do not miss them. If you do not get that phrase then give Nele 1 Likeability Potion, if the right words show, ask Personal Story and Nearby Rumors then when you see the 6 phrases listed on Steps 6 and 7 then after you get the 6 phrases and end the conversation, you click on Nele normally and click Shop. If still no phrase as listed here then repeat till you do carefully.
Step 9: When you are in look under the Music Book tab. Below are the 4 books and prices you will need to buy to rank your Compose up and never have to do this again. (or not with Nele anyways)
- What is an Ensemble? cost about 5,000 Gold. (This book when read will take Compose from Rank D to Rank C) (Advance cost 3 AP)
- The Path of Composing cost about 11,020 Gold. (This book when read will take Compose from Rank C to Rank B) (Advance cost 3 AP)
- Instrument Ranges cost about 11,000 Gold. (This book when read will take Compose from Rank B to Rank A) (Advance cost 3 AP)
- The Fundamentals of Becoming a Great Composer cost about 26,000 Gold. (This book when read will take Compose from Rank A to Rank 9) (Advance cost 5 AP)

Step 5: Rank 9 up to Rank 8!
Okay! Now this one is very easy and is painless (to your wallet that is). All you have to do is go to Iria, go to (or get a ride with friends) to Karu Forest and locate the door to Karu Dungeon. The door moves and will disappear and reappear so when you find it go inside and do the dungeon solo or in a party. I would recommend party because 1.) if you die you have people there to revive you. 2.) you'll get more chests at the end of the dungeon giving you more chances for the book. and 3.) The more the merrier.
Now for getting into the dungeon all one must do is drop a regular item. For example dividing out 1 Gold from their money and dropping it or take a low grade gem stone or a scroll or anything will work. Once inside just go through the dungeon, taking out monsters as they come, defeat the boss at the end and hope you or a team mate gets a book called The Innocence of the Lute. If a team mate gets it they can trade it to you as some people will even go and sell them in their shops in Dunbarton or in their house if they want to. If you don't get the book on the first run then just keep running the dungeon until you or another gets the book. It will save you money and will get you experience to grow your level and give you more money to use on whatever you like.
When you use this book and raise your rank from Rank 9 to Rank 8 it will cost you 5 AP to advance to Rank 8.
